Talk to the yard

Tell us what you’re after

The quickest way to get a straight answer is to send us the VIN or the engine code. We check it against what is on the shelf and come back with availability and a price. No call centre, no runaround.

This is the bit that matters. Send it and we'll confirm the part fits before you pay a cent. Can't find it? Leave it blank and we'll talk you through where to look.

Berea, East London

On the corner of Pearce and Tecoma. There is parking on Tecoma, and the roller door on the Pearce side is the one you want.

Open in Google Maps

Contact Torque Yard on WhatsApp, by phone or through the form on this page. We read every message ourselves – there is no call centre between you and the people who tested the part.

The fastest route is WhatsApp on 068 766 9890 with your VIN and a photograph of the old unit. Most fitment questions are settled in one exchange that way.

How to reach us

WhatsApp and phone: 068 766 9890, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 and Saturday 08:00 to 13:00. Closed Sundays and public holidays. Email reaches the same people, just slower.

Outside those hours, send the message anyway. It gets answered first thing on the next working day rather than disappearing into a queue.

If you are phoning about a specific listing, have the stock code ready – it is the TY- code on the product page and on your invoice, and it takes us straight to the unit on the shelf.

What to send us

Three things turn a vague enquiry into a same-day answer: your VIN, the code stamped on the unit you are replacing, and a photograph of the old part where the mounting points are visible.

The VIN is on your licence disc, on the plate at the base of the windscreen and usually stamped into the body under the bonnet or in the door shut. The engine code is stamped into the block, normally near the gearbox mating face. If you cannot read it, photograph the area and we will.

Tell us where you are and when you need it, too. That decides whether we are quoting a pallet to Gauteng or a courier to a workshop down the road, and it changes the delivery price. Delivery timing and costs are set out here.

Finding the yard

27 Pearce Street, on the corner of Tecoma Street, Berea, East London, Eastern Cape, 5200. Collection is free by arrangement – ring first so the unit is off the shelf and waiting rather than buried behind three others.

Bring the old part with you if you can. Comparing the two on the counter settles any remaining doubt in about thirty seconds, and it is the reason we prefer collections to go out with the customer having seen both units.

Before you get in touch

Is the part in stock?

If it is listed on the site, yes – everything here is physically in the yard. There is no per-order limit either, so if you need two or three of something, say so.

Will you confirm fitment for free?

Yes, always, and before you pay. It is the step that prevents most returns and it costs you nothing but a message.

Can you quote fitment as well as the part?

We do not fit in-house, but we work with partner workshops and can quote the job alongside the part.

What are the warranty terms?

Three months on used engines, gearboxes and heads, twelve on new sealed units, covering internal mechanical failure with professional fitment. Full terms here.

How do I pay?

EFT or card, or a 50% deposit with the balance before dispatch. Every sale gets a full VAT invoice.

Not sure which part you need yet? Browse the catalogue first, or read how every unit here was tested. Fitting should be done by an RMI-accredited workshop.

What happens after you contact us

A message with a VIN and a photograph usually comes back the same working day with a straight yes or no on fitment, the price including VAT, and a delivery number for your address. If the answer is no, you get that too – we would rather lose the sale than sell you the wrong unit.

If we have what you need, we send an invoice. Payment is EFT or card, or a 50% deposit if your workshop needs a week. The unit is packed the same or next working day after payment reflects and you get a tracking reference.

Nothing about that process involves a form-filling queue or a ticket number. It is a WhatsApp thread with the yard.

Common reasons people contact the yard

Four things come up more than anything else, and all four are worth asking about before you order rather than after.

  • Fitment. You have a VIN and a code and want to know whether the listed unit matches. Free, same working day.
  • Stock. Your model is not on the site and you want to know whether it is coming. Often it is sitting in a donor vehicle we have not stripped.
  • Delivery. You want a firm number to your address before you commit. We quote on weight and destination up front.
  • Warranty. You want to know what is covered before you spend the money. The terms are written out in full here.

Contacting us as a workshop or panel shop

Trade buyers are a large part of what leaves this yard, and the process is the same but faster. Send the VIN and the code, get a yes or no and a price, and we invoice the business rather than the driver. If you buy regularly, ask about repeat terms and we will sort something out.

What trade customers tend to want most is certainty on timing, because a bay standing empty costs more than the part. Tell us the date the vehicle is booked in and we will tell you honestly whether the pallet will be there, rather than taking the order and hoping.

We can also hold stock against a job that has not been approved yet. A 50% deposit reserves the unit and fixes the price while you wait on a quote to be signed off.

If you are not in the Eastern Cape

Most of what leaves this yard goes somewhere else. Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape are routine, and a steady trickle crosses into Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Eswatini and Lesotho.

You never need to set foot in East London. The fitment check happens over WhatsApp, payment happens by EFT or card, and the unit goes to your workshop door in two to five working days. Delivery detail is here, and everything in the catalogue ships on those terms.

About Torque Yard

Torque Yard is a used-parts yard at 27 Pearce Street, on the corner of Tecoma Street, in Berea, East London. We strip low-damage running vehicles and sell the engines, gearboxes, cylinder heads and rims that still work, to workshops and to private buyers, across South Africa and into the neighbouring countries.

When you contact this yard you get a person who has handled the stock, not a scripted queue. That is the practical benefit of buying from somewhere small enough to walk to the shelf.

Ten makes and 139 models are on the shelf at any time, weighted towards what actually works for a living here: Toyota, Ford, Isuzu, Nissan, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Mazda, VW, BMW and Mercedes. Bakkie and taxi units carry most of the turnover, with a steady run of hatchback, sedan and German stock behind them.

What every part on this site comes with

Four things, on every unit, whether it costs R4,000 or R90,000.

  • A test before it was listed. Run, compression and leak-down on an engine; every gear on a gearbox; pressure-tested cold and hot on a head. The process is written up here.
  • The code on your invoice. Read off the casting, recorded against the stock number, so a fitment argument takes one message instead of three phone calls.
  • A free fitment check before you pay. Send a VIN and a photograph and we confirm or decline the same working day.
  • A written warranty. Three months on used stock, twelve on new sealed units, with the exclusions listed rather than buried. Terms here.

Prices include 15% VAT and every sale is invoiced. Payment is EFT or card, a 50% deposit holds a unit while a workshop books you in, and orders over R25,000 ship free inside South Africa. Fitting should be done by a qualified workshop – an RMI-accredited workshop gives you the invoice the warranty needs.

None of that is unusual in a well-run yard. What is unusual is putting it in writing on a public page, where a customer can hold us to it, rather than describing it differently to each caller depending on how the conversation is going. If we ever fall short of what is written here, say so and we will fix it.

Where to go next

If you know the part, search the catalogue by engine code – it is faster than browsing by model. If you are still deciding, the FAQ answers most of what people ask before they buy, and the delivery page tells you what it costs to get a unit to your door.

And if you would rather just ask a person: WhatsApp 068 766 9890 with your VIN, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00 or Saturday morning. Full contact details and directions are here. Someone who has actually handled the contact will answer you.
